![]() After serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict and upon receiving his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Mr. Bradfield practiced architecture in Atlanta, Georgia for over 40 years. His work can be found throughout the southeastern United States. The design work by Mr. Bradfield was recognized with 20 major design awards, including the coveted AIA Honor Award and Presidential Award for Design Excellence presented by President Reagan. Additionally, Richard Bradfield was the 1987 recipient of the Ivan Allen Sr. Award, which recognizes the member of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Institute for Architects (AIA) who "has made the greatest contribution of service to the community and has therefore, sustained the highest ideals of the profession of architecture." Mr. Bradfield was honored with the prestigious award for his professional efforts to and for the betterment of the community, including several non-profit and community groups. In 1997, he received the Rothschild Medal for Service to the Profession from the AIA Atlanta Chapter. Mr. Bradfield served as the National Chairman of the AIA's Housing Committee and the AIA's Task Force for Affordable Housing. In 1990, he was elevated to the College of Fellows of the Institute. From 1992 until 1996, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the AIA and completing his service as National Vice President in 1996. In his 40 years of practice, Mr. Bradfield completed over 400 projects, including shelters for battered women, children and the homeless, housing for the elderly and handicapped, churches, schools, commercial and industrial facilities. Mr. Bradfield was a committed ally of those less fortunate than he, our valuable mentor, and a loving member of our family. |
